Khao Kheow Open Zoo Pattaya lets you explore the African Savannah zone and the Cats Complex without a single cage in sight. It opened in 1978 as Thailand’s first zoo to join the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. So the grounds span roughly 2,000 acres, with more than 8,000 animals living here across over 300 species.

Because the zoo is so spread out, most visitors get around by electric tram or rental golf cart. Meanwhile, in the African Savannah zone, zebras, giraffes and rhinos roam freely across open grassland. The Cats Complex also brings you close to lions and tigers. Many visitors also come specifically to feed giraffes, deer and elephants by hand, a highlight for kids and adults alike. So it’s worth setting aside extra time for this. Once the sun sets, the Khao Kheow Night Safari also runs twice nightly at 7pm and 8pm.

Since conservation is central to its mission, Khao Kheow Zoo Pattaya runs breeding programs for endangered species. One dedicated project also protects the clouded leopard. Entry costs 350 THB for adults and 120 THB for children. The zoo also stays open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
