Phuket Aquarium combines an underwater viewing tunnel with a sea turtle sanctuary at the Phuket Marine Biological Center. So this isn’t just an entertainment stop, it’s also a working conservation facility. Operating since 1983, the centre focuses on marine research alongside its public exhibits.
Because the underwater viewing tunnel runs about 10 metres through a large central tank, rays and sharks circle just above your head. Colourful reef fish join them as you walk through. Meanwhile, the sea turtle sanctuary cares for injured hawksbill and green turtles. Many find a safe place to recover here. Since feeding time usually happens around 11 AM, timing a visit around it adds an extra highlight.
Once you’ve walked the tunnel, more than 30 tanks of freshwater and saltwater species fill the rest of the gallery. Cuttlefish and stonefish both make an appearance.
